Let’s hope it’s a case of the storms before the calm as we prepare to get out and about this weekend
Storm Jocelyn swiftly followed Storm Isha, wreaking havoc with raging winds and heavy rain. But the forecast is better for the next few days, so we have compiled our usual list of things to do and places to go in the Mansfield, Ashfield, Worksop, Retford and wider Nottinghamshire area.
Here are 15 ideas for the weekend, ranging from picturesque walks and bird-watching to games nights, yoga sessions and coffee mornings.
On the entertainment front, there’s another panto at Mansfield’s Palace Theatre as Robin Hood rides into town, while the Royal Oak pub in Edwinstowe and the John Godber Centre in Hucknall host TV stars at comedy nights.
A big cycle challenge for charity is taking place at Mansfield’s Oak Tree Leisure Centre, while exhibitions continue to fascinate at Worksop Library and Mansfield Museum.
Family venues such as Sherwood Forest, Hardwick Hall, White Post Farm continue to delight visitors. And on a more sombre and poignant note, it’s time for Holocaust Memorial Weekend at the National Holocaust Centre and Museum in Laxton.
Before you set off for your chosen destination, please check its website for opening times and admission prices. Have a great weekend!

5. Rainy day return deal at White Post Farm
Even if the weather does turn again, don't be put off if you're planning a family trip to the ever-popular White Post Farm in Farnsfield. For the Mansfield Road visitor-attraction is offering a rainy day return deal until the end of February. If it rains continuously for more than an hour during your visit, White Post will give you tickets to come back on a day of your choice to meet lovable animals that range from alpacas, cows, goats and rabbits to meerkats, ponies, reptiles and tortoises. Visit the National Holocaust Centre and Museum and its glorious gardens at Laxton for a weekend of special events to remember the millions of victims of the Holocaust. The theme for this year's events on Saturday and Sunday (10 am to 3.30 pm) is 'The Fragility Of Freedom' as the museum explores, thought artefacts and testimonies, the erosion of freedoms for Jewish people in the 1930s and 40s. Mansfield Museum on Leeming Street is well worth a visit at the moment for exhibitions by the Mansfield Society Of Artists and disabled digital artist Jason Wilsher-Mills. But all year round, it's a good idea to pop into the museum's gift shop, which sells unique gifts and treats by local makers and crafters. A new online shop has also been launched. Photo: Submitted
The John Godber Centre in Hucknall has pulled off quite a coup as part of its Late Stage Comedy series of shows. For it has attracted acclaimed Spanish comic Ignacio Lopez to its next show this coming Sunday (7.30 pm). Lopez, who has appeared in several TV shows, including 'Live At The Apollo', scrutinises his immigrant upbringing and family tree in a relentlessly funny act about clashing cultures and never fitting in. Expect sarcasm, silliness and songs. Photo: Submitted
