Teenager left 'gutted' after bike stolen from Mansfield Woodhouse station

A Mansfield Woodhouse teenager is “gutted” after discovering his beloved mountain bike was stolen from a station.

Ben Goddard left his lime green and silver/grey Scott Ascot 660 bike locked up outside Mansfield Woodhouse railway station at 8am on Wednesday (September 16).

The 16-year-old had cycled every day to the station, for the past week, after just starting at West Nottinghamshire College. He would catch the 8.05am train to Sutton Parkway, and return at 5pm.

Ben’s step mum Sarah Jeffcoat contacted the Chad to appeal for help to trace the missing bike.

She said: “My stepson, like other children leaving school in the class of 2020, has had a tough time of it, facing uncertainty over grades and not being able to get onto an apprenticeship due to Covid 19, which has delayed last year’s apprenticeships finishing their programmes.

“So, after some uncertainty, Ben decided to do a Diploma in Motor Vehicle Maintenance course at college, and was starting to enjoy taking his first steps towards his dream job.”

But when the former Manor Academy pupil got back to Mansfield Woodhouse train station college yesterday (Wednesday) at 5.05pm, his bike was gone. It had been secured with a bike lock in the bike stands.

Sarah said: "He is absolutely gutted, so I am appealing for anyone who may have seen anything, or might have been offered a bike for sale, to get in touch. It is quite distinctive, and valued at about £420 with its accessories. I’m hoping that by getting the word out, it might make it too hot to handle.

"Ben’s heartbroken, he enjoys cycling with his dad Michael, and his four brothers Leo, Max, Zak and Joe. He has done over 700 miles on his bike, and uses the Strava app to log his rides.

"He loves trying to improve his speed and distance. It has left him feeling very frustrated, I have to drive him to the station now.”

A police spokesperson said: “We are investigating the theft of the bike from Mansfield Woodhouse railway station, sometime between 8am and 5pm, on Wednesday, September 16. If anyone saw anything suspicious, or has any information please contact us on 101 quoting reference 615/16thSeptember.
