"We are grateful for the time he spent with us and we are looking forward to a further opportunity for children to speak to Mr Anderson, in person or virtually, about Parliament and the work he does as an MP.”

Mr Anderson said visiting schools in his constituency is ‘very important, and for me its personal’.

"These schools in Ashfield are schools I have either been to myself as a child, or where my children have been, my nieces and nephews, as well as my mum, dad, grandma and granddad attended,” he said.

“When I attend Parliament, I speak up in education debates and I can do so with confidence that I know what I am talking about through my visits.

"I take time to get to know the parents, teachers and children and I will always do my very best for children in Ashfield. Education is so important.

"During my visit to St Mary Magdalene C of E Primary Academy I have never seen so many children smiling in a school. They were smiling, engaging, laughing and wanting to talk to me and asking me questions, which is a credit to this great school and its great academy Trust.”

Chris Moodie, chief executive of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham Multi-academy Trust, hailed the MP’s visit.

“It was great to meet with Lee and show him the wonderful work that Sam Robinson and her team are doing at St Mary’s. The children were delighted to show him what they are working on and are very excited by the prospect of working with him in the future.”
