Sutton school students invited care home residents for a special Christmas party

Students from Quarrydale Academy invited residents from Ashmere and Stoneyford Care Home along with their carers for a special Christmas party.

The celebration began with students meeting and greeting the residents and seating them at tables with handmade bespoke decorations with their names made by students in the Design Technology department and students then hosted at tables with residents and their carers for the afternoon.

Louise Maddison said: “The entertainment began with a theatre performance by KS3 and 4 performing art students showcasing their talents and was followed by a fun game of BINGO.

“Residents were then waited on by students from Food Technology and Hospitality from KS4 and KS5 who had spent the previous day preparing a feast of Christmas lunch.

“The lunch consisted of handmade stuffing, roast chicken, pigs in blankets and traditional vegetables, it went down a real treat and all of the visitors commented on the exceptional quality of the cooking.

“Following this they were then given exceptional dance performances by the KS4 dance classes, again showcasing the talent of the students in the Academy.

“This was a brief interlude to allow room for desert, homemade Yule Log and Mince Pies.

“The event was a real success and visitors have already asked if they can return in the new year for another event.”

And the students also made donations to Mary’s Food Bank.

Louise said: “Throughout November and December staff and students have been donating dried food items and toiletries.

“Students have then made these in to ten hampers which were decorated with bows donated by the Rose Bower on Outram Street.

“Students have focussed on the importance of community and supporting others and we are incredibly impressed with their generosity.

“Students from KS3 and 4 delivered these items, which were gratefully recieved.”
