Sutton school awarded prestigious 'training school' status

Staff at a Sutton school are celebrating after it was named as a new training establishment to roll out a programme of high quality training to teachers in their first year in the profession.

Leamington Primary and Nursery Academy has been awarded the coveted ‘Training School’ status with Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training to inspire the next generation of teachers.

The accreditation marks the significant quality of experience schools provide teachers in their training year.

Delighted Kaye McGuire, headteacher at Leamington which belongs to Nottinghamshire’s Flying High Partnership, said: “It is an absolute privilege to be accredited as a Training School.

Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training was formed in 2014 and has trained more than 350 new teachers for schools in the region through its Ofsted outstanding school-based route.

James Brown, SCITT partnership director, Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training, said: “Training Schools are a brand-new pilot initiative which will see four primary schools play a more significant role in hosting teachers in their training year.

"Each year our partnership trains up to 120 aspirant primary and secondary school teachers who go on to inspire and transform the lives of pupils across the region.

"Our newly designated Training Schools will be at the heart of helping continue to improve our school-based approach to training teachers in line with the ambitions of our partners trusts and the Department of Education’s policies around teacher retention.”

The Flying High Partnership is a founding member of Inspiring Leaders and chief executive Chris Wheatley said it was a ‘brilliant achievement’ for Leamington and Beeston Fields Primary and Nursey School.

"It is wonderful that it has been recognised by Inspiring Leaders that both schools completely embody the environment, support, resources and expectations required to develop the best teachers to the profession, these attributes and conditions make the schools a perfect training ground for any aspirant, training teacher.”
