Sutton opticians team completes coastal charity trek for Macmillan Cancer Support

A team from Specsavers opticians in Sutton has successfully completed a 25km coastal trek to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Eight colleagues from the locally-owned and run store in the Idlewells Shopping Centre took on the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge in Dorset on May 16, tackling the demanding route to support people affected by cancer.

Sunny Boyal, clinical director, was joined by store managers Carly Wright, Lisa Sharpe and Sam Best and optical assistants Jordan Butler, Lauren Bromley, Natalie Johnson and Ryan Mathura.

Together, the team has raised more than £1,000, with donations continuing to come in following the trek.

Sunny said: ‘We’re incredibly proud to have completed the challenge together and to support such an important cause.

“Everyone really pulled together, encouraging one another every step of the way.

‘Unfortunately, most people know someone who has been affected by cancer, so raising money for Macmillan meant a lot to all of us.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated, supported our fundraising efforts and cheered us on.’

Sam added: “The atmosphere throughout the challenge was fantastic, the scenery was spectacular and it was great to see everyone supporting one another.

“We’ve had so much encouragement from customers, friends and family, and we’re grateful for every donation received.’

Macmillan provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.

The charity also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have and campaigns for better cancer care.
