“It’s great that the leader of the council is able to support this launch and shows commitment to keeping our high streets alive and thriving, despite the challenges we’re all experiencing.”

According to the hospice, the loss of fundraising events and fairs since the onset of the pandemic has hit them hard.

“Some people probably think we are a little mad, opening a new shop during this time, but the community around here is so supportive of what we do,” says Jill Johnson, manager of the shop.

“Many people in the area know someone who has been cared for by John Eastwood.

“We’ve got some amazing items and incredible brands, including Jaegar, Ted Baker, Karen Millen and Calvin Klein,” she adds.

“It’s fantastic to receive these donations and means people on lower incomes are able to purchase high-quality affordable clothes and goods.”

Jill, who was a volunteer for John Eastwood Hospice Trust six years ago before becoming a staff member, has a powerful connection with the hospice, having lost her mother, father and two brothers within the space of four years.

“My eldest brother had cancer and was cared for in the hospice. My mum also had cancer and she was also looked after by the hospice. My involvement now is my way of giving something back.”

Sharon Williams, hospice CEO said: “Our community has supported the hospice with love, voluntary time and donations,” she says.

“It is wonderful to be able to offer this shop back as we enter our 30th hospice year. The stock and contents are a total reflection of all the support we receive from our community. I would say it’s a full recycling of the love, dedication and the time people give.”
