Sutton GP awarded MBE in Queen's Birthday Honours List

Dr Carter Singh, 39, has been awarded an MBE for services to healthcare in Nottinghamshire.

On hearing the news, Dr Singh said he initially didn’t believe it, suspecting the email he received was a phishing scam! However after contacting the Cabinet office, the doctor was happily “surprised, humbled and deeply honoured.”

Dr Singh, is married to Clare Singh, and has two children and another on the way. He is a full time GP, and partner at the Willowbrook Medical Centre, Sutton, where he has worked for ten years.

He is a family doctor, working in an area of high deprivation. Held in ‘high esteem,’ his peers elected him to serve as the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), and as a member of RCGPs national council.

He has a specialist interest in Learning Disability and cares for many patients at his own practice. He runs CIMA care consortium which provides care in residential homes for complex learning disability patients.

Dr Singh has published many peer reviewed papers on improving standards of patient care in his own time and made numerous appearances in the national

media.

He acts to protect learning disability patients, and to support the social care providers at their residential homes during the pandemic. He has worked with care staff to adapt daily activity planners, diet plans and infection control measures.

As a leading member of the national Black Asian Minortiy and Ethnic primary care leaders groups, he has provided advice and guidance for (BAME) doctors and patients, producing public information videos in Punjabi, shared with a wide audience via social media and press outlets in order to reach this vulnerable audience.

Dr Singh, said: “At first I thought it was an emailing phishing scam, I didn’t believe it! I contacted the Cabinet Office and was told it was true, I was so surprised, pleased and quite humbled.

"I feel truly honoured that my work and contribution has been acknowledged at such a high level. But I accept the honour alongside, and with thanks, to all my NHS frontline colleagues who have worked throughout the pandemic, and on behalf of all those who have lost or were lost in it.”
