Pensioners David Lane and his wife Rosie Ann, contacted the Chad to say “ a big thank” you after a surprise parcel of goodies turned up on their doorstep at Carrfeld Close last Friday.

David, who is 72, said: “We couldn’t believe it, this parcel just turned up, they have given them to everyone in our neighbourhood, we live on a crescent of bungalows with mostly older people.

“Some people turned up with uniforms on and said “this is for you with our compliments,” it was wonderful, there was everything you'd need, soup, tomatoes, beans and they had even put in a nice treat, a big box of chocolates! It had apparently all come from Morrisons.

“Through the Chad we just wanted to say a big thank you, from us and everyone, it was a very nice thing to do for us elderly people, and it really cheered us up in the middle of all this lockdown business.

“We were pleased as there was some strong white flour and we able to make some very nice bread in our bread machine. It was very kind of them.”

The store said that they have been giving out between 20-30 food parcels a day for approximately the past 10 weeks. A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “The food parcels mostly included tea, coffee, long life milk, toilet rolls, soup, pasta, and pasta sauces, bread, eggs, tuna. They were worth around £10 each - depending on the products our store put into the shopping bags on the day.

“We sent them to NHS district nurse locations, care homes, schools, nurseries, police, fire stations, bus stations, royal mail distribution centre, after working with the Royal British Legion to identify vulnerable and older people in the community to deliver food to them too.”

Morrisons’s manager Vincent Foot said: "Our team has been really passionate about supporting all local needs. We wanted to get food to vulnerable and older people, as well as our key workers - some of whom have been working around the clock."
