In the latest incident, after huge amounts of household and trade waste was pictured in the Chad dumped in the popular beauty spot, dozens of fridges and freezers were then torched. The Chad was alerted to the problem by a concerned Mansfield resident.

The fire service’s Edwinstowe north group station manager Colin Poyzer, said: “If the public are spending time in Sherwood Pines and they come across a fly-tip on fire we ask them to stay well away and call 999 for us to attend.

“It is a massive help for us if the caller is in the woods to use What3Words. This will provide our control room with a direct location, allowing us to locate the fire quicker.

"If anyone spots somebody fly tipping then they should report this to the police via 101 and with any details they may know about the incident.”

What3Words is a Smartphone app which uses a geo-code system for the accurate communication of locations. Geographic coordinates are given as a combination of three unique dictionary words with the entire world divided into 3m square grid sections.

The system can be used to help people to describe exactly where they are and to be able to more accurately communicate that location to emergency services in a crisis.
