Stags fans banned from parking on grass area near stadium due to “safety concerns”
Council bosses have confirmed football fans will no longer be able to park on a popular grassed area near Mansfield Football Club due to “safety concerns”.
Mansfield District Council has made the decision to stop cars parking on Quarry Lane bridge and grassed area near Mansfield Football Club following concerns about the stability of the bridge and the damage to surrounding grass and wild flower planting.
Following discussions with local ward member Councillor Stephen North, it has been agreed that in the interests of public safety cars will no longer be able to park in that area.
A statement from a council spokesman said: “This is due to concerns about the stability of the bridge and the damage to surrounding grass and wild flower planting. Pedestrian access will remain open, but anyone who uses this area for parking will need to find an alternative location. This restriction will come into force with immediate effect.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused but public safety must come first.”
The area has become a popular spot for football fans to park on matchdays and the decision came into force just a day before The Stags FA Cup tie against Arsenal.
Ahead of the game, which sold out the 10,000-capacity One Call Stadium, Mansfield District Council announced it would block supporters from parking in these areas close to the ground.
The decision has been met with a mixed response from residents.
Clive Parkin said “I’ve been going to the Stags for over 50 years. Cars have parked there on match days for as long I can remember. I wonder - how many “safety incidents” have occurred in that time?”
Julie Tasker said: “Perhaps its time to properly honour nature and respect the River Maun that actually gave Mansfield (Maunsfield) its name but has apparently been diverted and concretised in various parts.”
