Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust announces staff awards shortlist

The final shortlist for this year’s Sherwood Forest Hospitals Staff Excellence Awards has been announced

More than 500 nominations were received from staff, patients and visitors, for both teams and individuals, in a number of categories, including two special categories for patients to nominate in.

The People’s Award and the COVID-19 People’s Award was open to patients, visitors and the public to nominate a member of staff or a team that they feel has gone above and beyond during their care or the care of a loved one at King’s Mill Hospital, Mansfield Community Hospital or Newark Hospital during the last year.

The judging to decide the shortlist included members of the trust’s board of directors, trust governors, staff side representatives, patients and hospital staff.

Richard Mitchell, trust chief executive, said: "Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete a nomination form as it will mean so much to the person or team nominated.

“I know the judges had a tough decision choosing the shortlist this year and they commented that the quality was very high.

"All teams and individuals that were nominated should take pride in the fact a colleague or a patient has taken the time to nominate them for the care or service they provided during the last 12 months.

"I have written to every single person who was nominated to let them know and to thank them personally for their commitment to Sherwood, our local community and our patients.

“I am proud of the hard work and dedication shown by all colleagues across our hospitals and I would like to thank all of you for your support.

“I’m really looking forward to the online awards event and to celebrate with those of you who have been shortlisted.

Winners will be announced at an online awards ceremony on the evening of Friday, November 6.

The shortlist is as follows:

COVID-19 Nursing Award (Team): ITU Team; Operating Department Practitioners; Swab Team.

COVID-19 Doctor and Consultant Award (Team): Anaesthetics Team; Critical Care.

COVID-19 Specialist Healthcare Award (Team): A&E Domestics; Microbiology; Occupational Health.

COVID-19 Non-clinical Award (Team): Critical Care Domestics; HR Team; Procurement.

COVID-19 Non-clinical Award (Individual): Bob Truswell (strategic head of procurement); Chris Williams (therapy operational team lead); Tara Unwin-Gibson (linen room co-ordinator).

COVID-19 Clinical Award (Individual): Tom Bell (senior pharmacist for surgery and critical Care); Dr Irena Guzik (consultant anaesthetist); Paula Evans (matron – nosocomial infection).

People’s COVID-19 Award: Deborah Knight (team leader - ITU); Emergency Department Rachel Parker (trauma co-ordinator).

Volunteer of the Year Award: Nadia Whitworth (Friends of Newark Hospital); Ward 25 Volunteers.

Fundraiser of the Year Award: Julie Dennis (FM performance and quality manager); Justin Wyatt (charge nurse - ward 43); Ward 11.

Chris McFarlane Award for Training: Dr Irena Guzik; Sarah Limb (ward aister – paediatrics); Support Sonographers.
