Plans for a 100-bed hotel and restaurant, and three other eateries with shopping and takeaway facilities, have been submitted to Mansfield District Council.

It is hoped the development, close to Stockwell Gate and Rosemary Street, could get underway in the spring of next year if approved by councillors.

Chris Calvert, executive director with Pegasus Group, acting as agent for developers the ARBA Group, said the application included ‘a 100-bed hotel and ancillary restaurant and three restaurants with ancillary retail and takeaway facilities, associated vehicular access, parking and servicing areas, public realm and landscaping’.

Mr Calvert added: “The development is proposed on a brownfield site, located in Mansfield town centre which was identified as a regeneration site and allocated for retail and leisure uses within the emerging Mansfield District Local Plan 2013 – 2033.

“The proposed development would secure substantial net gains across the three dimensions to sustainable development and the three overarching objectives of the planning system.”

Mr Calvert said 138 construction roles would be needed on-site and in the wider economy during the anticipated 12-month build programme, creating an additional £8.1m to the regional economy during that year-long period.

Long-term, the development is expected to create 140 full-time equivalent jobs in Mansfield.

About £4.8m per annum is expected to be injected into the wider economy once the employment floorspace is built and operational. It will also bring in £190,000 of business rates every year, developers claim.

Mr Calvert said the benefits will also include the ‘enhancement in the offer of retail and leisure facilities in Mansfield town centre for both local and visiting residents’ which would ‘help promote Mansfield as a place where people wish to live, work and play’.

He added: “The proposed development would provide a high-quality flagship development on a prominent site in Mansfield town centre.”

Developers say they hope that planning permission for the scheme will be approved this summer.
