A former Mansfield social club which was a favourite of punters for more than 20 years is likely to be turned into housing.

Boothy’s club on West Hill Drive was previously a Labour Club until it was taken over by Jeff and Jenny Booth.

They bid farewell to it in 2016, and the building is now falling into disrepair after standing vacant ever since.

Plans before Mansfield District Council planning committee next week propose converting it into six separate houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs).

It would be divided into two seven-bed and four three-beds flats.

The plans are recommended for approval, creating a total of 26 beds near Mansfield town centre.

Boothy’s was previously granted permission to become a 24-bed care home in 2019.

When current applicant Trio Properties London bought the property earlier this year, the company attempted to resurrect the plans.

However, planning documents say it wasn’t able to get a green light from the care industry watchdog due to the building’s layout.

The current plans to transform the building into housing were instead submitted in June.

“The applicant purchased the property in its current condition in 2024. Their understanding is it had been leased to an operator, but they were unable to secure CQC (Care Quality Commission) accreditation and surrendered the lease.

“Upon purchasing the property, the applicant engaged professionals with a view to secure CQC accreditation. However, they were informed that the property configuration was such that this was not achievable.”

No major changes are planned to the outside of the building if it is approved.

It would only have three parking spaces due to its proximity to the town centre and public transport.

The application is recommended for approval at the planning committee on Monday, September 30.
