Operation Reacher reaches out to community after arrests in Ashfield

New policing team Operation Reacher has reached out to the Ashfield area public after making several arrests in its first few days.

The special team made a number of arrests for a variety of offences including burglary, drug supply offences and possession, harassment, theft and failing to appear at court. It

also located a stolen motor bike, and seized offensive weapons.

It also carried out warrants on the Carsic Estate in Sutton, on Thursday, when weapons were recovered from one address and as a result of the other warrant, a quantity of cannabis and Class A drugs were recovered.

The occupants of the address were not at home, but police say they can “look forward to a visit from Operation Reacher very soon.”

On only its third day, on Wednesday, the proactive team also raided properties in twin drugs raids at Sutton-in-Ashfield. Officers carried out intelligence-led raids at Warnadene Road shortly at around 3pm, and in Hardwick Lan,e shortly after 4.30pm.

PC James Brown, of the Ashfield Operation Reacher Team, said: “Proactive warrants like this are about keeping up the pressure on the local offenders and causing as much disruption as possible to the illegal drugs market.

“Sometimes we find what we are looking for and sometimes we don’t, but we want local criminals to know that we are watching them and that we now have increased resources to come after them. If you are dealing drugs in our community, you can expect a visit from the Operation Reacher team in the near future.

The teams says it is working closely with wider police teams and partners to address issues affecting the communities within Ashfield and is happy to hear from the public

In a Facebook post on Friday night the team said: “A massive thank you for your support and comments, together we will make a difference and make our community a safer place so please tell us what you feel are the key priorities for Ashfield and your Reacher team.

"If you see us out and about in the community, come and have a chat with us.”
