Ollerton author publishes debut novel inspired by the area

A mum from Ollerton is set to publish her debut novel - a fantasy book inspired by local folklore.

Lyndsey Hall started writing the novel in 2016 after finding inspiration whilst walking her dogs in the nearby woodlands and nature reserves.

After a break from writing to have a baby, she picked the story back up in 2019 and made the decision to publish it independently.

The Fair Queen is the first in a planned trilogy aimed at fans of young adult fantasy novels, particularly those with a love of fairy tales and the fae.

The 32-year old said: “The story follows seventeen-year-old Aria, who lives in the fictional village of Hartwood.

“She is shocked to discover a portal into another realm where the Fair folk possess magical abilities linked to the elements, and dark creatures stalk the woods.

"I took inspiration from British folklore and mythology for the piece, along with the woodland areas of my home town.”

Her proud mother, Angela Taylor said of her daughter’s achievement: “She is mother of a two year old and works full time as a marketer so this is no mean feat.

"I know I am biased as her mother, but it is a brilliant book.”

The Fair Queen is available now in eBook and paperback from Amazon, with an audio book coming soon.
