Mansfield Palace Theatre closed its doors to the public in March and is to stay closed until 2021 due to government restrictions on large gatherings.

Further guidance is due in November on opening venues safely.

Councillor Stuart Richardson, deputy mayor and portfolio holder for regeneration and growth at Mansfield District Council, said: “Public safety is our priority and it is regrettable that the theatre will remain closed to prevent gatherings of large audiences and Mansfield’s much-loved pantomime will not be going ahead this Christmas.”

Although performances will not be taking place during the autumn and winter season, plans are being made for the venue to be used in new, innovative ways over the coming months.

Cultural services manager Sian Booth said: “While this is really sad news for the theatre, we are being creative and looking at how we can open up the building in a Covid-safe way to support our local community.

“We are also looking ahead to the festive season and what the theatre can do to help bring Christmas to Mansfield, working with partners to help deliver exciting opportunities, events and experiences for the local people – watch this space.”

Customers who have purchased tickets for shows in 2020 will be contacted by the box office team to transfer or refund tickets.

Further announcements will be made on the theatre’s social media channels.
