More than 90 per cent of Nottinghamshire parents offered preferred secondary school place
More than 90 per cent of Nottinghamshire parents have been offered their preferred secondary school place this year.
National Offer Day, Monday 1 March, sees parents across the country find out which secondary school their child has been allocated.
This year 90.1% of Nottinghamshire children have been offered their parents’ first preference secondary school for this September (2021). That is 8349 students out of a total of 9266 that applied on time for a school place.
Parents who applied online will be able to log on to their account to see their outcome on National Offer Day, however parents who applied by other means will be sent their outcomes by 2nd class post on National Offer Day.
Those who are happy with the place they have been offered should accept the offer and the school will then be in touch with them to arrange the transition.
Parents who are unhappy with the place offered, should view the information available on Nottinghamshire County Council’s website regarding the options available to them, including information about how to appeal.
Nottinghamshire County Council’s committee chairman for children and young people’s services Councillor Philip Owen said: “As the cohort of children needing a place at secondary school continues to rise, we are particularly pleased that the number of Nottinghamshire residents securing a place at their first preference school remains above 90%.
“And nearly 97% of residents living across the county have been offered one of their four preferred secondary schools.
"We are also delighted that so many parents have secured places for their children at one of their preferred schools.
“We’re, of course, determined to keep improving on these figures in years to come. This includes continuing to stress to parents how vital it is to use all four of their preferences on their application rather than only making one.
“However, this year, and against all our advice, over 43% of Nottinghamshire parents relied on putting down just one preference on their application to secure a school place which, in some cases, will have limited their options.”
