Meadowhall worker's 'random act of kindness' shared by thousands online

Amber Bailey, wasn't expecting someone to check she was alright when she was left crying after a bad day at work.

The retail support specialist, was sobbing, when Rhys Howcutt - who was working in Meadowhall's food hall - stopped to see if he could help.

"He came up and asked if I was alright, I had my head phones in and said I was fine, but he asked again and gave me some blue roll to wipe my tears with,” said Amber.

"He didn't have much of the roll left so he went away to get some more and he came back with a full roll and gave me half of it.

"It was more that he came back and he was genuinely concerned about my welfare,” she added.

The 24-year-old was so touched by the employee that she bought him a box of chocolates and sweets to thank him for his kindness.

Amber, of Clowne, also spoke to Rhys' manager at the Oasis, to make sure he was praised for his work.

"I knew from that moment that I wanted everyone else to know how amazing he was", she added.

"There are people that could have been in a lot worse situation than me and Rhys could have been the difference between them going home and waking up the next morning."

The retail worker shared this random act of kindness in a Facebook post, where she reminded others that it costs nothing to be kind.

Amber's post, which included a picture of herself and Rhys, has been shared over 3,700 times and liked by over 13,000 people.

Amber said: "I was hoping for 100 likes but when I got a call from my mum saying it's had over 10k likes and 3k shares I couldn't believe it.

"There were other comments about him and people who he had helped and I just want him to be recognised for that."

Amber, who suffers from anxiety, urged more people to show kindness in everyday life.
