Mansfield woman died at tragically-young age of 35 hours after taking crack cocaine and ‘spice’

A Mansfield woman has died at the tragically-young age of 35, hours after taking crack cocaine and the synthetic drug “spice”, an inquest heard.

Jenna Wright’s body was found by her partner in the bedroom of his home on Chadburn Road, and her death was confirmed by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) paramedics at 8pm on March 19 this year.

A police investigation found Jenna had been living there for about a week, and had been in an on-off relationship with her partner for about a month after she was evicted from her last address, Adam Pearson, assistant coroner for Nottinghamshire, said.

They had been using crack cocaine and alcohol and hadn’t slept for three days, Jenna’s partner told officers.

He said Jenna had taken around £30 of crack during the previous day, but didn’t know if she had taken anything else, Mr Pearson said.

At 4am on March 19 they had smoked spice which made them feel drowsy and they had gone for a walk to clear their heads.

They returned home at around 6.30am-7am and Jenna went to bed while he stayed up before falling asleep in the kitchen.

He went to the bedroom and saw she had moved position so he went out for the day.

But when he returned to Chadburn Street that evening and went to kiss her forehead he found she was cold to the touch.

He went to a neighbour’s home who returned with him and confirmed she was dead. Jenna’s partner said he “freaked” and bought Diazepam tablets from a friend before using his neighbour’s phone to call an ambulance.

“I delayed ringing because I was in complete shock,” he later told officers.

While waiting for the police, two of his friends arrived at the Chadburn Road address asking for directions and he showed them where to go, the coroner said.

A post-mortem found traces of cocaine and synthetic cannabinoids in Jenna’s system, as well as bruising on her thighs which was the likely result of minor injuries.

A toxicology report noted the “strong relation” between cocaine misuse and serious, sometimes life-threatening, medical conditions.

Recording a conclusion of drug-related death on Tuesday, August 18, the coroner said Jenna died as a result of cocaine and synthetic drug use in the hours before her death.

He passed on his condolences to Jenna’s friends and family following “her untimely and early death.”
