Mansfield wildlife charity "full to capacity" and unable to accept new casualties or rescues
An under strain Mansfield wildlife charity has been forced to temporarily close its doors to new casualties or rescues after reaching full capacity.
Volunteers at Mansfield Wildlife Rescue are working round the clock to care for animals in the region but confirmed they only have room for veterinary referrals at this time.
Cheryl Martins who runs the rescue based in Shire Road, Pleasley Vale, posted on the charities Facebook page: “Due to reaching full capacity, we are unable to accept any new casualties or rescues at this time — we only have room for veterinary referrals.
"We simply do not have the space, resources, or staff available to care for any more animals right now. This decision was not made lightly, but it is essential to ensure every animal already in our care continues to receive the high level of attention, treatment, and space they need to recover.”

Volunteers are encouraging residents to rally round and continue to support the charity by visiting the cafe and outdoor playground.
Cheryl added: “Good news though – our café and grounds remain open during normal hours.
“You are still very welcome to come and visit us, enjoy some refreshments, and say hello to our resident animals. Children can also have great fun in our outdoor play area. Every visit helps us care for the animals already here, so your support means the world to us right now.
“We will let you know immediately as soon as we have space available to take new rescues again. Thank you so much for your understanding, patience, and continued support – we couldn’t do this without you.”
Mansfield Wildlife Rescue has been operating over 20 years. Founder Cheryl Martins started the animal rehabilitation work from her home in Mansfield Woodhouse before the rescue officially relocated to its current countryside site in Pleasley Vale in 2022 following a fire at her home.
As well as visiting The Secret Garden Café open Tuesday to Sunday 10:30am to 4:30pm, residents can also support the charity by donating via direct bank transfer to Santander.
