Mansfield Town stadium ready to host historic night of combat sports

Up to 5,000 fans are expected to pack into Mansfield Town’s stadium on 30 May for the Revolution Elite Combat Championships show, dubbed Field Mill Mania1.

It features a whopping 40 bouts across the MMA, boxing and K1 disciplines with 10 junior fights, 10 preliminary fights, 10 undercard and 10 main bouts including a 10 round international heavyweight title showdown for the main event.

“It is huge for Mansfield and something I have had as a vision and a dream really for the last ten years,” said promoter Neil Huntley.

“We have tried to get it off the ground three or four times before but we’ve just not been able to get it over the line. Luckily this time we have been helped by people at Mansfield Town and been able to get it over the line.

“They need to get more events on as a club. It is going to be good for the community and bring more revenue for the club and local businesses and also be great for local fighters.

“It is good to bring the community together and is great for the tight. It has taken some planning but it will be an unbelievable night.”

And Huntley, who runs the Revolution Gym in Skegby, admits show night will be a proud personal moment after a decade of trying to get it on.

“It is a little bit surreal. When we signed the contract someone said to me ‘you realise you are creating history?’ - that is something I will take to my grave.

“This is one of the oldest football grounds in the world and nothing like this has ever been done so we are literally making history.

“I market and coach fighters seven days a week and it is a massive thing to help bring them through.

“We have got some world class fighters in the gym and it is just giving them the platform they deserve.”

Fans will be housed in the main Ian Greaves stand with covered VIP tables, big screens and the right on the pitch.
