Marjorie Smart, a resident at Maun View Care Home, celebrated her 100th birthday and staff pulled out all the stops to ensure it got the fanfare it deserved with entertainment and surprises.

Jenny Drabble, Wellbeing lead at the home, which is part of the Runwood Homes Senior Living group, said: “Our first entertainer of the day was Netti with her birthday message and a few Vera Lynn songs.

“I would like to give a special mention to Treehouse after-school club for their beautiful banner, Epic Events for their donations of balloons, and Morrison's in Mansfield Woodhouse for all their kind donations and collection throughout this stressful time.

“And finally thank you too for all those entertainers that have been great in keeping our residents entertained.”

Born and raised in Mansfield Marjorie lost most of hearing when she was five due to a bout of measles, but it didn’t stop her living life to the full.

After her first husband was lost in the First World War, Marjorie met and married her second husband in the 1960s and together they loved being active members of the Baptist and Breakaway fellowship for many years where they made some lifelong friends.

Marjorie also did a needlecraft banner more than 40 years ago which still hangs in Mansfield Baptist Church today.

Her husband taught her to play golf and they both loved to play, along with Marjorie’s sister-in-law, at Coxmore Golf Club.

Marjorie was a very talented artist and loved needle craft – some her artwork is in the home with her – and also became a teacher at Hillocks and Quarrydale schools.

Marjorie also loves doing puzzles, crosswords and suduko.
