‘School’s Out For Summer – Mansfield’ is a community based project established to help alleviate child poverty in our area and support children and deprived families during what is, for many families, a difficult time.

The school holidays are usually a struggle for families where support through their usual breakfast clubs and free school meals is not available for weeks at a time, and this was the reason Janet Spencer came up with the scheme in 2019.

It was a great success, which saw more than 80 families being given food, clothing and gift parcels over the summer and Christmas holiday periods.

Janet said of the scheme’s plans for 2020: “Our aim is to ensure that we can help as many families as possible, with food, clothing and much needed resources.

“Over the holidays, the project also puts on activities and hubs for families.

“Unfortunately money is regularly needed to fund these activities and for putting together the emergency food parcels and other vital items such as sanitary products and essentials.”

They welcome donations of non-perishable food, vouchers, good used school uniform and school shoes, and have now set up a fundraising page to enable them to take donations.
