The award-winning museum has received the funds from the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme and plans to take its pop-up touring museum to care homes, as part of its dementia support project.

The pop-up museum will visit open spaces in care homes with its ‘forgotten frames’ exhibition, designed to spark memories of childhood through portraits and photography of Mansfield.

“Many care home residents have not been able to get out so much because they’re shielding so it’s fantastic, thanks to this grant from Persimmon, that we can do something to help generate some happy memories for residents at a time of so much uncertainty.”

Sian Booth, cultural services manager for Mansfield District Council, said: “Our exhibition provides an opportunity to support our reminiscence therapies.

"The Pop-up museum enables us to bring our collection to the over-70s who are currently shielding or in care homes and will be set up in front gardens, car parks or courtyards.

“We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for helping to make this possible.”

Neil Follows, managing director at Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring the history of Mansfield to the wider community and support Mansfield Museum’s dementia support programme.”

"If people were unsuccessful in their community champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
