During the virus outbreak, volunteers at Millside Radio have been unable to engage in their usual hospital radio work such as visiting the wards, collecting requests and attempting to brighten the day of patients. However, on Saturday April 25, despite being unable to use their usual studios, the technology has been put in place for the station’s volunteers to broadcast a request show from 2pm, live, from one of their members’ homes. The volunteers are now asking for people who have friends and loved ones in the Mansfield hospital over the weekend to phone in their messages and requests to their answerphone on 01623 737 737. Alternatively they can email their requests to [email protected].

Station Programme Controller Charlie Brown said: “At a time when patients can’t receive visitors on the wards we hope that we can help maintain a connection with their lives and people outside.

“We hope we can help to brighten their day and generally share our appreciation for the excellent work that is happening at the moment right across the hospital”

Anyone inside or outside the hospital can listen to the radio shows free either through the bedside Hospedia units on Channel 5 or via the internet at millsideradio.co.uk.
