Mansfield girls's haircuts raise more than £800 for children's cancer charity

Two young girls from Mansfield have done something special to help support a children’s cancer charity.

Freya Wilmot, aged eight, and her best friend Sofija, aged seven, both had their long hair cut Santas PMU Beauty on Pecks Hill in Mansfield.

And both have donated their cut hair to the Little Princess Trust – a UK charity which provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people, up to the age of 24, who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatment or other illnesses.

Katy Wilmot, Freya’s mum, said: “It was such a special and emotional day for the girls as they had their hair cut.

"They were unbelievably brave and it was so moving to see them go through the experience with such confidence and kindness.”

It is the second time Freya has had her cut for the charity and the first for Sofija after Freya asked her to get involved this time.

The girls, who both go to Samuel Barlow Primary Academy in Clipstone both originally wanted to raise more than the £630 Freya raised the first time.

But having quickly passed that, they have now set their sights on raising £1,000, which would also cover the cost of making, providing and fitting a wig for a child.

And not only that, but Freya has already said she wants to start growing her hair again ready for a third donation in the future.

Katy continued: “So far, an incredible £870 has been raised and we are truly overwhelmed by the generosity and support people have shown.

“Donations will be closing on Friday, February 13 to allow for any last-minute contributions and to include the cash donations we have also received.

“It has meant the world to us, and to know that their efforts have inspired so many people is something we will never forget.

“Freya has already said she wants to do it again for lucky number three — which just shows how proud they are to be part of something so important.”
