Mansfield girls ready to get special haircuts for children's cancer charity
Two young girls from Mansfield will be getting haircuts with a difference next month.
Freya Wilmot, aged eight, and her best friend Sofija, aged seven, are getting their hair cut together at Santas PMU Beauty on Pecks Hill in Mansfield on Saturday, February 7.
But what makes this trip to the hairdressers different is that they will both be doing it for the Little Princess Trust – a UK charity which provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people, up to the age of 24, who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatment or other illnesses.
Not only will Freya and Sofija – who both go to Samuel Barlow Primary Academy in Clipstone – be donating their cut hair to the charity to make a wig, they are also hoping to raise £1,000 for the charity between them.
For Freya, this will the second time she has donated her hair to the charity having first done so when she was five back in 2022.
This time, she wanted her friend Sofija to get involved too and they are both looking forward to the big day.
Originally, they wanted to beat the £630 Freya raised last time but they have already blasted past that target with nearly £700 already raised.
So now, they have doubled the target to £1,000, which would also cover the cost of making, providing and fitting a wig for a child.
Katy Wilmot, Freya’s mum, said: “Freya wanted to do it again and has grown her hair purposely for it.
"She and Sofija both went to get their fringes cut together and Freya asked Sofija if she wanted to donate her hair too and Sofija said yes.
“I am so proud of them, it was all Freya’s idea to do it again and when she spoke to her friend, she was really excited about it to and I am so proud of them both for wanting to help the charity again.
"It really touched her the first time when she learned all about the Little Princess Trust and what they do and she wants to carry on helping them and I’m so proud of both of them.”
