Mansfield community pulls together to help address PPE shortage

The rapid increase in cases has resulted in PPE shortages throughout the NHS, so Nottinghamshire residents have started raising money or even making their own.

Sean Revill decided to use the virtual Grand National to raise money between his friends.

A £100 donation was given to the district nursing team to purchase 100 pairs of eye protection.

A further £260 donation was given to Sherwood Forest Hospitals.

Dixie Overton from Warsop put out a plea for donations of material so she could make headbands, which staff wear to attach their face masks to, as many were reporting ears were becoming sore from wearing masks all day.

She was shocked to be offered enough to make 200 headbands within minutes, which will be delivered to frontline staff soon.

Lisa Angell, a healthcare assistant at Kings Mill Hospital is an admin for the ‘Mansfield & Ashfield Area Support Group’, which is one of a number of support groups in the area who have been collecting donations and helping those in need. Lisa helped coordinate the donations from Debdale Sports & Recreational Club last week, and has now handed over baby monitors donated by members of the group to King’s Mill, which will allow staff to communicate with each other on the wards.
