Mansfield’s St John's with St Mary's church has organised a number of events from a joint online carol service, to helping the hungry and homeless, to running socially distanced Christmas real life services.

Reverend Chris Lee vicar of Mansfield St John's with St Mary's said: “We really want to offer a home delivered Christmas this year. It has been such a tough year with Covid 19, we can't gather together in big groups to celebrate and sing like we usually would.

“This Christmas we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to settle down, cosy at home, with a blanket and a mug of hot chocolate, and join in with our Christmas services online.

"We’ve just released a joint carol service with churches across Mansfield working together and contributing to create a Christmas message for the whole community.”

For those who can't access church online, there are a few services happening in person on Sunday, December 20, at 8:30am and 10:30am, at St John's and at 2:30pm at St Mary's.

On Thursday, December 24, from 11:30pm, the midnight communion is at St Mary's and a Christmas Day service is at 10am at St Mary's.

A family Christingle Trail is being held on Saturday, December 19 in the St John's churchyard. It’s for people to explore, in family groups of six or fewer, from 10am to 3pm.

The trail uses QR codes so a smartphone is needed. Make-your-own Christingle kits will be available to take away.

For those in need at Christmas time the church has also partnered with Ladybrook Enterprises helping to supply a food bank and it is helping the homeless through its Beacon project https://mansfieldbeacon.org/Home.html which is currently closed for visits, but is still distributing food and Christmas parcels with Mansfield District Council and the Framework organisation.
