Sarah E Waring, who is about to complete an Open University degree in creative writing and philosophy, has self-published a number of books under her own name, and also using the names Aubery Fox and Lucy Shakespeare. But as lockdown saw Sarah’s self-employment income fall, she focused on writing new works, exploring ways of marketing her books.

Selling through online sites, Sarah has now found out that her work, mostly written on her kitchen table in Forest Town, has been been read as far afield as America, Germany, Australia and India.

She said: “During this lockdown period, I, like many others, have seen a drop in self-employment work.

“I have realised this is the time to promote what I do and to also support others on their author journey. It’s been wonderful to see my work being downloaded and people sending me messages to say how much they loved what I have written. It’s scary as an author to put things out there, but I know it’s what I want to be doing.”

Sarah was made redundant in 2013 and has since found her love of writing, taking the big step of enrolling on a BA honours degree in creative writing and philosophy. She added: “I have lots of big plans for the future, including a range of pocketbooks and a travel memoir site. I am also currently working with a group of volunteers who are working on an exciting project to raise funds for animal welfare charities.”Sarah began her writing journey in 2015 as a blogger, putting together articles on a cryptocurrency site.

This enabled her to raise the funds to write and self-publish short stories and a novella. She also published the first novel in a pentalogy, The Empress Returns.

The author’s fascination with the supernatural is closely linked with the ideology of a fable in that each story has its own moral purpose. Her fictional stories are created to enable the reader to think about matters of our society and of the heart. Sarah wants the reader to go away feeling they have learned something about themselves and taken away a part of that story forever.
