Lily Mason is challenging herself to do a sponsored 10k run – 1k for every year of her life, on Saturday, May 9.
The Blidworth Oaks Primary School pupil will set off on her run from her front door on Harlow Street at 10am. Mum Emma, and the family’s seven dogs, will be cheering her on, whilst dad Chris will accompany her on his bike.

Hide AdLily’s run aims to raise money for NHS Together Charity – the same charity that Capt Tom raised £30 million for. The route will take Lily through Blidworth, then on a cross country and is expected to take under an hour.
The youngster is a county champion for cross country running in the Newark & Sherwood district. She is also a member of the Mansfield Harriers and will run in their vest.
She is also a school county champion and came second overall in a league against much older children. With her dog Mist, Lily is also involved in a winning Flyball team, competing at Crufts.Emma, who is a dog trainer and walker, said: “We’d love it if people would support Lily by donating, but also by waving or cheering her on from their windows or gardens, at a safe distance.
She added: “Lily had seen the Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off on TV and aid can I do something, mum? I told her, we are not really good bakers in this house but you can run. She saw Captain Tom do his walk for every year of his life, and decided to do a 10k run for each year of her life.

Lily’s Just Giving page originally had a target of £100, but family and friends have given £300 already, so her target is upped to £500.
