Large fire in Kirkby may have been a 'deliberate or a careless act'

Firefighters were called to a large fire in Porland Park in Kirkby yesterday (Thursday, August 11).

A spokesman from Ashfield Fire Station said: “Both appliances from Ashfield Fire Station and appliances from Alfreton, Eastwood, and Worksop responded to a large fire in Kirkby yesterday afternoon.

"This fire was in several fields and destroyed farmers crops and wildlife habitat.

“It did not just happen, it may have been deliberate or a careless act of discarding items such as glass bottles or lit cigarettes etc.
