Large fire in Kirkby may have been a 'deliberate or a careless act'

A spokesman from Ashfield Fire Station said: “Both appliances from Ashfield Fire Station and appliances from Alfreton, Eastwood, and Worksop responded to a large fire in Kirkby yesterday afternoon.
"This fire was in several fields and destroyed farmers crops and wildlife habitat.

Hide Ad“It did not just happen, it may have been deliberate or a careless act of discarding items such as glass bottles or lit cigarettes etc.
“The fire was extinguished after lots of hard work by the firefighters, farmers and some local residents.
“Three main jets, two hose reels and beaters were used.
“Ashfield Fire Station would like to thank the farmers and local residents for their assistance dealing with this fire.
“Please be fire aware, take litter home with you, don’t have disposable BBQ’s and please do not throw lit cigarette ends onto the ground.”
