Captain Sir Tom Moore passed away at the age of 100 on February 2, after fundraising millions for the NHS whilst walking the length of his garden, and releasing a charity single.

Headteacher of Morven Park Primary School in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Mark Watson, wanted the whole school to celebrate the life of the centenarian with a day of activities at the school.

In nursery, the children arranged themselves to spell ‘Sir Tom’, and children in other year groups made medals, wrote poems, and walked 100 laps of the playground in his honour.

Leanne Doherty, Foundation Stage lead, said: “As a school, we devoted the day after Tom’s death to celebrate him and his dedication to the NHS.

"In nursery, we chose to make his name using ourselves, and the children even saluted in respect.”

It was announced this week that £122,000 of the £30 million raised for NHS Charities Together was given to Sherwood Forest Hospital Trust, which runs King’s Mill Hospital, Newark Hospital and Mansfield Community Hospital.

Workers have benefited from health care and well-being, including extra psychological support for colleagues and ‘wobble rooms’ for teams caring for patients with COVID-19.

Trust colleagues have been able to access additional psychological support including a well-being hub, self-care and extra rest areas.

The funding also allowed the trust to recognise and appreciate colleagues, with a special medal being designed to thank everyone for their efforts throughout the pandemic.
