Lee Roberts and Ryan Griffiths signed up for this year’s London Marathon but the event didn’t go ahead because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Determined that Children With Cancer UK wouldn’t lose out on precious sponsorship, the two runners have decided to do a marathon in Nottinghamshire.

Their fundraising effort has been inspired by Lee’s cousin, Jessica Naylor, of High Pavement, Sutton, who was diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoma a few years ago when she was just six years old.

Lee, who ran the London Marathon last year, said: “I saw first hand what the charity does to help the children and how they also help the families. Jessica recently had her yearly check-up and all clear but it is still a charity close to my heart.”

The friends will take on a 26.2-mile run on October 4, 2020, tracked by an app which London Marathon organisers are building.

Lee, 43, who lives at High Pavement and is office manager for a private ambulance company, said: "We will need all the support we can get, our training has not really been up to speed due to the crisis and also the donations have also taken a hit.

"We are approaching people, survivors, celebs like Katie Price who we know well, to join us for a mile at a time and donate £26.20 to the cause.”

Ryan, 36 who lives at Chatsworth Street, and Lee appeared on Katie Price’s television show My Crazy Life in 2019. Former model Katie invited Lee, who has appeared on several shows as a paranormal investigator, and Ryan, a psychic medium of 20 years, to cleanse her old mansion.

Commenting on the fundraising bid, Lee said: "We have some support from Katie, Rylan Clark-Neal has shown support for us plus we have also had support from Katie Jarvis who plays Hayley Slater on EastEnders.”

The marathon will start at the Queen’s Medical Centre, head over to City Hospital and down the Hucknall bypass. The route will take Lee and Ryan to Newstead Abbey, Sutton in Ashfield, Mansfield reservoir where they have done most of their training and Kings Mill Hospital.
