Jake Fletcher, Maddie Fletcher, Kenan Chambers and Dionne Williams decided to make a lasting tribute to commemorate their friend, who sadly took his own life during the pandemic.

They also made the graffiti-style artwork, near to their youth centre, to remind other young people that they have a voice and how they are not alone.

Last year marked the 10th year of the awards and they recognise and celebrate young people across the county who took action in the Covid-19 crisis to help their friends, family and community – or made positive changes to their own lives.

Coun Kay Cutts, leader of the county council, said: “I’m very proud of all of our winners who have created innovative ways of carrying out services to others in their community which is a great credit to them and an inspiration to us all.

“There are many other young people across Nottinghamshire who have contributed enormously during the coronavirus pandemic.

“They have supported their friends and families, helped their communities, and made positive changes to their lives and the lives of those around them.

“I know that those closest to them are also very proud of them, for the way they have overcome considerable challenges and their selflessness in the face of Covid-19.”
