The Mansfield Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, (MAODS) will debut their production of 'Singing in the Rain' - which features a local twist - on March 4 at Mansfield Palace Theatre.

Hide AdLocal actors filmed silent movie scenes which mirror extracts from the original play in the grounds of Newstead Abbey.
Carolyn Frith, who will play the leading lady, explained what it was like to film at such an historic location.
"It was wonderful to act in the grounds of Newstead Abbey in front of the passing general public who were very supportive during the film takes and seemed to enjoy the action," she said.
Snippets from the 1952 production, featuring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds, were also filmed at the Nottinghamshire heritage site.

Hide Ad'Singing in the Rain' documents the difficult transition between silent films to 'talkies'.
Actors Don and Lina are left in a predicament when their most recent project is remade into a musical and only one of them can sing.
Directed by Ally Sadler, the Mansfield production is set to run until March 82020.
Ally said: "The range of skills required for this production, including filming the silent movie extracts at Newstead Abbey and working with a set that has real ‘rain’ effects that drain through a false floor for the iconic song ‘Singin’ in the Rain;’ have been very exciting challenges for the society and our Mansfield and community audiences are in for a big treat.”

Hide AdCostume rental service, Jolly Jesters in Alfreton and Chameleons Fancy Dress Shop in Retford helped to provide period costumes for the production.
MAODS Chairman, Matthew Bird, added: "Singing' in the Rain' includes some of the best known and loved comedy routines, dance numbers and love songs ever written.
"It really is a fun, feel good, happy show that will have you tapping your feet and singing along!"
