Claire Tideswell’s home was damaged when a tree in a neighbouring garden fell.

The roof of Claire’s house and guttering took the main brunt of the fallen tree, which also wrote off her Ford Ka.

“I was in the hallway when it happened. I heard an almighty crash and opened the front door to see the 80 foot conifer on my car and works van,” she said.

“It’s been really stressful, and it’s going to cost about £450 to get the tree removed.

“My car insurance have paid out for the car, and they had to come and clear part of the tree to take the car away.”

A total of 31 flood warnings were issued for Nottinghamshire after Storm Dennis caused widespread damage on Saturday and into Sunday.

The flooding was declared a ‘major incident’ by police, and the storm is believed to have caused the worst winter floods in some areas in recent years – partially because the ground was already saturated from Storm Ciara.

The Government has activated an emergency funding scheme for areas affected by the flooding, which include parts of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire.
