Historic Nottinghamshire County Show cancelled due to Covid-19 crisis

This year’s Nottinghamshire County Show has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 crisis, organisers have revealed.

The historic event is one of the main highlights on the area’s social calendar and was scheduled to take place at Newark Showground in Saturday, May 8.

But despite the Government announcing its roadmap to ease restrictions and the success of the vaccination programme being rolled out nationally, the County Show date falls before social distancing rule changes come into place on May 17.

Disappointed Richard Sheldon, chairman of the County Show committee, said he and his colleagues had no alternative but shelve this year’s event.

“We know this will be very sad and disappointing news for all involved especially as we have had to cancel for a second year in a row,” he said.

“However, we must play our part in following guidance from the Government to safely re-open the country and help aid the recovery from the pandemic.

“We look to the future with optimism and confidence at bringing the Show back in 2022 focusing on its agricultural roots and truly representing the essence of the local rural community.”

The Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society still plans to hold its annual Midlands Machinery Show (November 9-10) and Newark Vintage Tractor and Heritage Show (November 13-14) at the Showground.
