She said: “I couldn’t have wished for a warmer welcome from the staff and residents at Red Oaks. Caring for people is a calling not a job.

“Managing a care home has many challenges, especially at times like this. We are pleased to state we have not had to deal with any Covid-19 issues with our residents, we’ve still had to manage staff isolations and cutting down on family visits.

“We are able to continue visits for our palliative residents through scrupulous PPE and social distancing. We’ve been inundated with kind messages of support and thoughtful gifts from residents friends and family and the community which helps to keep up our spirits.”

The home’s ‘keeping in touch’ campaign has also generated pictures and poems from children, which Lin said had created much “joy.”

A close relationship with her grandparents is what drew Lin into care work.

She said: “It was seeing how they were treated as elderly citizens and being totally dissatisfied with their end of life care, that spurred me on to create caring homes that would bring love, respect and dignity to every resident regardless of their situation when they need residential care.

“For me, I ensure everyone in my care gets what I would have wanted for my own family. Here, I am part of a team that believes we are one big family – our staff, residents and their families – and Red Oaks is our home.”

Lin continued: “Our team is committed to providing the very best person-centred care. Getting to know our residents from the moment they arrive, including their past life and experiences as well as understanding their personality and nuances enables us not only to get their care package right, but allows us to build a strong bond with them and their families.

She added “It’s my ambition is that we will be the care home of choice for the region and one of the best in the UK.”

Roger Daniel, CEO of Red Homes Healthcare said: “We needed an experienced manager for Red Oaks, in order to deliver the exceptional care our residents deserve throughout these unprecedented circumstances.

“Lin is an exceptional carer. As a beloved mother and grandmother, she brings a combination of a warm maternal instinct, extraordinary personnel skills and meticulous organisation to this management role.

“Every staff member is over the moon with this appointment and we’ve received lovely messages from the residents and their families.”
