Fantastic tribute to King's Mill Hospital

The NHS is at the forefront of everyone’s mind at the moment with the heroic work that staff are doing in the fight against coronavirus, so this young girl decided to make a fitting tribute.

Elise Parkes from Skegby goes to Dalestorth Primary School and is currently being homeschooled.

One of the tasks set by the eight year old’s teachers was to make a model of a building they admire, from the local area, in any materials they choose.

She enlisted the help of her dad, Ricky Parkes, who is currently at home on furlough, and between them they didn’t hesitate in choosing King’s Mill Hospital.

Ricky said proudly: “Elise adores lego and has stacks of it, so straight away she asked if we could make the model out of it.

“I suggested King’s Mill and she agreed straight away, so we got to work.”

It took two days of building, and hundreds of lego bricks, and the end result is pretty spectacular.

The model accurately depicts the three colourful towers that the hospital is famous for, along with intricate scenes with miniature doctors and nurses, even showing patients being transported on stretchers.

Chief Executive Richard Mitchell said: “I think this is a remarkable replica of King’s Mill Hospital and I would like to thank Elise and her Dad Ricky for making it and sharing it with us.

“It is a brilliant creation, which I am sure took many dedicated hours and concentration to build, so well done to them both.

“It has certainly brought a smile to colleagues’ faces and it’s great to see some creativity during these difficult times.

“Well done to both of them, and thank you.”

What a fantastic, fitting tribute to our local hospital.
