A fundraising appeal has been launched to help them get back on their feet following the devastating blaze on Collins Avenue, which left the mother and three of her children requiring hospital treatment for smoke inhalation.

Nicola Cheetham, who launched the campaign, said the fire which broke out on Saturday, February 22, at around 10am, had left her aunt and her aunt's teenage children – aged 13, 14 and 15 – with ‘nothing but the clothes on their backs’.

“My auntie and three of her children were in the house at the time. Two members of the family were able to escape and two were rescued by the fire brigade through an upstairs window,” she said.

“All four were taken to King’s Mill Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. They were extremely lucky and have been released from the hospital but the house is a complete wreck and they have been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs (which are covered in smoke).

“I'm trying to raise some money so they can go out and get some new clothes, and to just help them get by for the next few weeks.

“As you can imagine they are all extremely shaken up at this time and aren't quite sure what to do next.

“Any donations would be very gratefully received and hugely appreciated at this difficult time.”
