Family fundraising for treatment options after Rainworth father diagnosed with brain tumour
After being diagnosed with a brain tumour a retired Army Captain and his family are trying to raise funds to help pay for his treatment.
Jason Longmate, 51, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in November after he started to feel unwell and have vision problems.
He has been told that it is a grade 4 glioblastoma tumour in his brain and his treatment options are limited.
However his family have refused to give up and his wife, Ellen, along with his two sons, have been researching other options.

Ellen said: “It’s has been an absolute shock to us and we are devastated.
“When Jason was diagnosed we asked if there was any other treatment that Jason could have or any trials, only to be told there wasn’t.
“I have done nothing but research since we had this news and there are so many other things out there for people.
“Glioblastoma are hard to treat, lots of trials being done on all sorts of medication but nothing firm yet.
“I have found two trials that Queens Medical Centre actually support so we have spoken to his oncologist and he has agreed to put Jason forward for these at our request.
“I also found Dr Mullholland in London, one of the leading Oncologists in the country working at University College London.
“He is involved in research for these tumours and has a machine that can offer some help to patients for lots of cancers, as well as brain tumours.
“We have had a consultation with Dr Mullholland, and Jason now has oncothermia treatment every week while on the standard radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
“I drive him to London every Saturday for the treatment, to help with the tumour and potentially help the radiotherapy and chemotherapy be more effective.
“The treatment primes the tumour ready to be attacked by the treatment and stimulates your immune system.
“This is why we set up the Go Fund Me to help with this.
“I’m constantly researching other treatments as there are so many out there, however a lot are bound by red tape due to medical companies.
“We have been married for 28 years and have two boys, age 21 and 18. We are absolutely heartbroken.
“We’ve been together since I was 17, he is from Rainworth and I am from Blidworth. We have moved around due to his military background but moved back to Mansfield around 12 years ago.”
