Enviromental officers investigate Kirkby fly-tipping

Three fridges, amongst other household waste, were found on Blidworth Road yesterday (April 23).

On the same road, a building materials bag had been dumped.

An Ashfield District Council spokesman said: "Our investigations are still continuing. Anyone with any information please contact [email protected] or call 0800 183 84 84."

Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence for which you can be prosecuted. The courts have various powers available to them to tackle fly-tipping, including imprisonment, substantial fines of up to £50,000 orders to pay costs and an order to deprive rights to a vehicle used to commit the offence.

Helen Wright, Environmental Enforcement Officer said: “Ashfield District Council has been battling against fly-tippers for some time. This has recently included the purchase of a number of camouflaged cameras which have been deployed in fly-tipping hotspots across the District. The introduction of the cameras is a warning to anybody who thinks it is acceptable to dump their waste within Ashfield.

“We have also restricted access to well-known fly tipping hotspots using ‘Bunds’ which are large piles of earth and have carried out sting operations which have proved successful in catching illegal waste carriers.

“We ask that the public ensures that they use licensed waste collectors or alternatively calls the Council for a bulky waste collection. That way they know that their rubbish is being disposed of responsibly.

“Fly tipping is a blight on our landscape and we will not tolerate people dumping their waste and thinking they can get away with it.”
