Driver wedged between lamppost and car after pursuit in Kirkby
A driver has appeared in court after becoming wedged between a parked car and a lamppost at the end of a high‑speed pursuit in Kirkby.
Road Crime Team officers were in Kirkby at around 10am on Tuesday, January 20, when they spotted a Toyota RAV4 they had reason to believe was being driven illegally.
After pulling alongside the stationary vehicle in Rosebury Street, officers in two unmarked cars attempted to stop it – only for the driver to reverse at speed and make off.
In the minutes that followed, the vehicle reached speeds of more than 70mph in residential areas, mounted a grass verge and passed through multiple junctions.

Following a pursuit involving, the vehicle mounted a pavement on Kingsway and became wedged between a parked car and a lamppost.
Steven Ball, 41, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court the following day and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
Ball, of no fixed address, was remanded into custody and is due to be sentenced at the same venue on February 26.
Inspector Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a reckless and needless act that put other road users and pedestrians in danger.
“I am thankful that we were able to bring this pursuit to a safe conclusion and quickly put the driver before the courts.”
