Bethany Tuck, 22, is raising the cash for her mum Tanya, who has a rare condition called lipoedema.

The condition causes an abnormal build-up of fat in limbs and it affects around 11 per cent of women.

It is usually seen in the lower part of the body, especially the legs, but it can also affect the upper arms and tummy. Bethany’s mum is in severe pain daily and the condition can also cause bruises to develop a lot more easily.

Tanya has been diagnosed with stage four lipoedema, which is the most severe type, and is set to have two operations this year.

However, as they are not funded by the NHS, it means the family has to find more than £17,000 to cover the costs.

Bethany said: “It would be a complete dream of my mum’s to be able to have the operations, as it would give her a life she deserves without pain.

“Not only has this condition caused her physical pain since the age of 12, it has also affected her confidence. She has been bullied in the past for it and the way she looks.”

The family needs to raise £9,200 to cover the remaining cost of the procedures and so far has raised more than £1,700 through a JustGiving page.

Bethany said: “I want nothing more than to be able to make this happen for my mum.”
