A Sutton couple say they were overwhelmed by the kindness of people who helped them when their car broke down in Sutton on Bank Holiday Monday.

Mrs Kirby said she tried to restart the car but it wouldn’t.

She said: “A nice young lad offered to push round the corner to safety and we accepted, my husband offered to help and at 67 years young was really struggling. Then out of nowhere about half a dozen cars pulled over to help us and push us to safety they were so kind it completely restored my faith in human nature.

“I have read that Sutton in Ashfield doesn't get very much good press but I was over whelmed with peoples kindness and once they had us in a safe position I then called the AA and they left. We can't thank them enough.”

She said a young man in a white van offered to go and get some water from the shop as it was a very hot day.

“I offered him money but he wouldn't accept any,” said Mrs Kirby.

“ Off he went and return about five minutes later with two bottles of water for my husband and I.

“We would like to thank them all so much for their help and kindness especially with what is happening in these really difficult times.”
