Mansfield District Councillor John Coxhead and well known ‘Super-nanny’ Anne Callaghan (BEM) have collected 600 stamps from people in the area to help Yvette Price-Mear who runs a pet bereavement charity.

Yvette – affectionately known by many as ‘Mrs Hook-a-Duck’ – for her fundraising stall, had appealed for help to raise money or stamps for her charity which supports people grieving after the death of an animal.

Since forming the Pet Bereavement Support Group in 1993, the 58-year-old grandma and mum has fundraised at thousands of fetes over the years.

Due to the pandemic and lockdown restrictions, Yvette had been unable to raise money in the usual way. John and Anne had appealed through the Chad for stamps, or donations to buy stamps, so Yvette could continue to send out support packs to the pet bereaved.

"During these unprecedented times animals have become important for many. Losing a pet can be very upsetting,” said John, who represents the Yeoman Hill ward.

"Yvette’s charity is one that doesn’t get a lot of help, but she is a lifeline for people.”

Yvette is a holder of the OLM, the Order of the League of Mercy, and she fosters adults with learning difficulties as a Shared Lives carer.

John added: “Initially we set a target of 500 but reached that and donations continued to roll in, we now have 600 first and second class stamps that will benefit Yvette’s charity.”
