Clipstone Rotarian taking on walking challenge for charity

Seventy-year-old Cate Hunt is walking 1,220 miles in a year to raise money to be split between the Prostate Cancer UK charity and Mansfield Rotary Club.

The mum of one, is married to Alan, who sometimes joins her on her walks, along with Bertie their spaniel.

Since starting her challenge on July 1, Cate, who is a Clipstone parish councillor, walks anything between 27 – 52 miles a week and has already raised around £300.

Her challenge doesn’t finish until June 30 and she is hoping to raise £1,220 and now calling for more donations.

The 1220 challenge was originally set by the Sherwood Forest Rotary as a cycling challenge.

Cate said: “I decided I wouldn’t cycle, but I would walk and they said if you can do 1,220 miles in a year, then go for it! I have found it no problem, as I love being outdoors and I love walking with people or by myself.

"I’d love to make £1,220 in money as well walking the same number of miles. I’m on target to achieve the mileage but need more donations to boost the fundraising. Whatever I raise will be a bit more they didn’t have before I started!”

Cate is a regular fundraiser and over the past five years she has taken part in a number of challenges including a walk from St Bees head to Robin Hood’s Bay and on to Scarborough and also travelled as far as she could on her bus pass!
