A stretch of the B6030 Mansfield Road towards Edwinstowe by the Cavendish roundabout is of particular concern.

Mum-of-one Tara Kay, of Clipstone, said: “I was travelling with my daughter Jorje in our Ford Focus. We hit a giant pothole, it made such a big bang, my daughter was terrified. They are huge.”

Insurance broker and dad-of two Nick Taylor-Ward, of Clipstone, said: "The potholes are very bad, there’s lots on the B6030. You have to get dangerously close to the verge and they fill with rain.

"I took my car for an MOT and had to buy four new tyres, after three of mine had damage inside. The garage said it could be pothole damage.”

Clipstone resident and parish councillor Wayne Swiffin said: “There’s a stretch of road that NASA is looking at as a test centre for the next Mars rover. When the bad weather hits, the potholes fill with water turning the road into a boating pond.

"People tell me their cars have been damaged. I dread to think how cyclists are coping.”

Councillor Paul Peacock said: “Nottinghamshire’s roads are some of the worst in the country when it comes to potholes, this particular area is in a terrible state.

"The problem lies in Nottinghamshire County Council’s policy on potholes, it’s not ok to claim how many potholes they have repaired when it is the same pothole being repaired multiple times, it’s misleading and false economy, people know this and deserve to have their council tax spent more efficiently and effectively.”

Gary Wood, Group Manager for Highways and Transport, at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “We are aware of deterioration to areas of the road surface on Mansfield Road and have been making safety repairs.
